Cops raid Grande corporation for evidence

While coun­cil­lor Anil Ma­haraj of the San­gre Grande Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion, charged with one count of mis­be­hav­iour in pub­lic of­fice was wait­ing to ap­pear vir­tu­al­ly be­fore a Port-of-Spain mag­is­trate, a team of of­fi­cers at­tached to the An­ti-Cor­rup­tion In­ves­ti­ga­tion Bu­reau (ACIB) searched the of­fices of the San­gre Grande Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion

While coun­cil­lor Anil Ma­haraj of the San­gre Grande Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion, charged with one count of mis­be­hav­iour in pub­lic of­fice was wait­ing to ap­pear vir­tu­al­ly be­fore a Port-of-Spain mag­is­trate, a team of of­fi­cers at­tached to the An­ti-Cor­rup­tion In­ves­ti­ga­tion Bu­reau (ACIB) searched the of­fices of the San­gre Grande Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion.

Po­lice said they were pur­su­ing fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion in an at­tempt to get some added ev­i­dence .

Some of the of­fi­cers ar­rived in a po­lice bus while oth­ers ar­rived in un­marked ve­hi­cles.

The pres­ence of the armed po­lice and ve­hi­cles at­tract­ed the at­ten­tion of mem­bers of the pub­lic and mo­torists.

Re­port said po­lice of­fi­cers in­ter­viewed sev­er­al mem­bers of the ad­min­is­tra­tive staff and left with some of the cor­po­ra­tion’s of­fi­cial doc­u­ments. No one was ar­rest­ed.

When con­tact­ed for a com­ment on the pres­ence of the po­lice of­fi­cers at the cor­po­ra­tion, some em­ploy­ees said they were scared while oth­ers, which in­clud­ed oth­er coun­cil­lors, re­mained tight lipped on the is­sue.
